Gary R. Fankhauser, ASLA - Principal Designer, N•Focus  Design, Inc.

Gary is a Licensed Landscape Architect in North Carolina (License #707), South Carolina (License  #367) and Virginia (License #607) with over 25 years of experience in developing urban design, land planning, and landscape architecture projects. He is a graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture.  Specific project experience includes urban design, community master planning, mixed-use and TND projects, commercial developments, sports facilities, parks and recreation design, site specific planning, construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration /management. He also has extensive experience in producing 2-D and 3-D illustrative architectural and site plan renderings.

 

F. Richard Flowe, AICP – Principal Planner, President/CEO, N•Focus  Design, Inc.

             Richard is a Certified Planner (AICP #5380) with over 30 years of experience in planning and infrastructure projects. He attended Piedmont Technical College majoring in Engineering Technology before transferring to Lander University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Mathematics; furthermore, he holds a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from Clemson University.  His early career experience was as an apprentice in field engineering, surveying, and civil engineering.  His transformation into urban planning began early during the infrastructure planning phases of major EPA 201 Facilities projects. During his professional planning career, his expertise has been proven in municipal infrastructure, annexation, transportation, public administration, zoning, and land use planning.  Today, his reputation in local government is widely known across the Carolinas and his influence on land development projects is highly regarded in the Charlotte region. The most intriguing aspect of his combined professions as policy, design, and implementation consultant include a comprehensive understanding of public policy on growth; engaging local and regional political systems in cooperation with private interest; and, the impact trends have on the planning of neighborhoods, business location, and the benefits of comprehensive design on both the occupant and user within the built environment.  Richard served as planning director for the City of Kannapolis from 1987-1999 and as Joint City-County Planning Director for the City of Columbia/Richland County from 1999-2001.  Both of these positions were through public-private contract for continuing services.  He has also served dozens of communities through both continuing service and project specific contacts.

 

Gerald Green, AICP, Principal Planner, President/CEO, GreenPlan, Inc. (corporate name change pending)

             Gerald received his Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech and his Master’s Degree in City Planning from the University of Tennessee.  He is a Certified Planner (AICP #036631) and has over 25 years experience as an urban planner, working as a public sector planner from 1979 to 2002 and has assisted with and overseen numerous planning initiatives.  As the Planning Director for the City of Brevard, NC, Gerald revised the City’s comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, and subdivision regulations.   While working as the Chief Planner for the City of Asheville, NC, Gerald helped manage the rewriting of the City’s Comprehensive Plan (City Development Plan 2025) and directed the preparation of small area plans for the Broadway Corridor, the Haywood Road Corridor, the West End-Clingman Avenue Neighborhood, Biltmore Village, and the Charlotte Street Corridor.  He was the lead author and team manager for the preparation of the City of Asheville’s Unified Development Ordinance, which replaced the City’s 1977 Zoning Ordinance and numerous other land development ordinances.  Gerald left the public sector in January 2003 and formed GreenPlan, Inc., an affiliate office of N•Focus  since October 2009 (name change pending).  Through GreenPlan, Inc., Gerald has successfully completed many public-sector planning projects including the Village of Cashiers Design Guidelines, the Village of Cashiers Zoning Ordinance (Development Ordinance), the Jackson County Land Development Plan, updates to the Town of Biltmore Forest Zoning Ordinance and updates to the Town of Woodbin Zoning Ordinance, including Woodfin’s first New Urbanism zoning district.  Under Gerald’s management, GreenPlan recently completed the Town of Jamestown’s Land Development Ordinance and the Town of Woodfin’s Comprehensive Plan (Plan for a Sustainable Future).  Current projects being managed by Gerald include the preparation of the Town of Woodfin’s Greenways, Pedestrian Facilities, and Bikeways Master Plan.

 

Adam M. Nowocin, PE – Principal Engineer, N•Focus  Design, Inc.

             Adam is a Licensed Professional Engineer in both North Carolina (License #031289) and Virginia (License #035808) with over 10 years of experience in residential, commercial, industrial, and civic design and development. He is a graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.  He has coordinated the efforts of environmental, geotechnical, civil, and traffic engineers, as well as architects, attorneys, and clients. Under his coordination, projects have been successfully managed from due-diligence, through regulatory permitting, and into construction. His knowledge of Storm Water Management and Bio-Retention Rules and Regulations has enabled him to solve many site restraint issues by using creative and innovative ways to manage storm water runoff.
